The “scrip” in scrip-hop is derived from the word “Scripture” which is truth in its original form: God’s word untainted. The “hop” in scrip-hop is derived from “hip-hop” which is the original name for rap music before it evolved into what is today. Hip-hop’s primary lyrical focus was partying and the audience, i.e. “Baltimore’s in the house!” The artists then were called M.C.’s (masters of ceremonies) because they hosted the parties. They thrived on crowd participation and response, as the PRAISE WARRIORS do now.
Scrip-hop performed by the PRAISE WARRIORS incorporates the Scripture and rap to make this genre exciting, energetic, as well as educational.
We were given His word to guide and to teach. We were given music for our enjoyment. Combined, they become
entertainment that teaches, lyrics that need not be censored, music that motivates and songs which state boldly that
Jesus is alive and active.
Others may have their definition, this is ours.
